This invention provides compounds of formula I or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, are as described in the specification. The compounds of formula I are inhibitors of NAMPT and are thus useful for treating cancer, inflammatory conditions, and/or T-cell mediated autoimmune disease. Example compound II was prepared by cyclization of Me 2-amino-5-carbomethoxybenzoate with 4-fluorobenzonitrile; the resulting Me 2-(4-fluorophenyl)-4-oxo-3,4-dihydroquinazoline-7-carboxylate underwent O-alkylation followed by hydrolysis to give 4-ethoxy-2-(4-fluorophenyl)quinazoline-7-carboxylic acid, which underwent 3-(1H-imidazol-2-yl)-1-propanamine dihydrochloride to give compound II.
