CF₃CMe:NOH was hydrogenated over prereduced PtO₂ to give CF₃CHMeNH₂. HCl, which with NaNO₂ gave an ethereal solution of CF₃CMe:N₂ (I). I in Et₂O treated with Ph₃P gave CF₃CMe:NNPPh₃. I with BzOH and BF₃.Et₂O gave 8% BzOCHMeCF₃. CF₃MeC:NNH₂ in Et₂O stirred at 20° with Ag₂O and saturated alc. KOH and gave an ethereal solution of I, treated with a molar equivalent of p-MeC₆H₄SO₃H.H₂O in Et₂O to yield p-MeC₆H₄SO₃CHMeCF₃, also prepared from CF₃CHMeOH and p-MeC₆H₄SO₂Cl. I in Bu₂O and isolation according to Gilman and Jones (CA 38, 56⁵) gave volatile orange I, b₆₇ -10°. I warmed to 20° at atm. pressure continued to heat up spontaneously and detonated at 32°. Solutions of I were stable at 20° but reacted immediately with acids.
