3-((Bis(benzyloxy)phosphoryl)oxy)propane-1,2-diyl dioleate is a synthetic, protected phospholipid intermediate. The oleoyl tails provide fluidity, while the bis(benzyloxy) protection allows controlled phosphate chemistry, making it very useful in lipid synthesis and experimental lipid membrane studies. The protected phosphate allows stepwise synthesis of phosphatidylglycerols or other phospholipids. It can be converted to zwitterionic or anionic phospholipids for liposome or membrane research. After deprotection, it can be incorporated into lipid-based formulations for experimental delivery systems. The protected phosphate group allows selective reactions on glycerol backbone without affecting phosphate chemistry.
